Watercolor Class Creations

I taught a fun little watercolor class this weekend and boy did we ever make some gorgeous works of art!

KathyLewisH20SheilaLeitchH20

Upper left by Kathy Lewis, Upper right by Sheila Leitch, lower two by Sandy Johnson.

SandyJohnsonH202 SandyJohnsonH20

The “zen” part of this class is creating the watercolor backgrounds.  It’s so easy to lose yourself in the process.  We used pigment inks, O’So Sticky Powder, Clear Ultra Fine micro beads and a single flourish stamp from Stampers Anonymous for the focal point on all of the cards.  Each student made about 15 little canvases.

It’s always interesting to see what others think to try and I am totally inspired by these ladies!  It’s hard to believe this is a beginner class, isn’t it?!

Hugs, Suzanne

P.S.  I am happy to schedule it again for anyone who couldn’t come this time.  Just email me and let me know you’re interested!  Don’t forget, I will come to you if you want to get a group of your friends together for a class!  Ü

Spooky Shaker ATC

When I was going through my artist trading card collection I stumbled upon this wonderful atc!

IMG_2107 The window in the middle is cut out and transformed into a small shaker box filled with orange and black micro beads.  Unfortunately the card wasn’t signed and my memory has failed to recall who gave me this fun card.  If you recognize it as yours, please let me know!

My Tombstone Artist Trading Card

Tombstoneatc I’m playing in a Tombstone shaped artist trading card swap on the Pennywise Arts Yahoo Group!  There are 9 of us, each making 9 identical cards to swap out.

My wonderful husband Brian has been creative too.  He’s designed lots of templates and cut files for my Cricut.  His last batch was five different tombstone shapes.  Perfect!

Using Sure Cuts Alot software and my Cricut I get myself into crazy details that I would never have considered when all I had was a pair of scissors!  Ü

The base and front of my card are cut from bronze Stardream paper.  Even the copper Stardream background insert and the acetate were cut on my Cricut.

I stamped Copper Brilliance crackles (Stamper’s Anonymous) around the edges.  The crow image (from Inkadinkado) is embossed onto the front of the card and acetate at the same time.  **It had to be heated very carefully so as not to melt and warp the acetate.

I created a foam tape box around the window and filled it with a mixture of micro beads and sealed them in with the copper cardstock backing piece.  The bat was punched from glossy black cardstock and added to the card with foam tape.  A gem is the finishing touch.

Tombstoneatc I’ll be sure to share the other tombstones when the swap comes back later this month!

A Pinch of Patience

Here’s another beauty by PWA designer Julie Imsland.  As the Pennywise Arts Yahoo Group 1-4-1 ATC swap coordinator Julie is very prolific in her swap creations!

IMG_2096Julie punched the top two corners with a decorative corner punch, put O’So Sticky Tape down under the corners and then mounted the card onto a back piece of card stock.  Translucent micro beads in Lettuce and Stream were added to the exposed O’So.

The vintage looking background reminds me of wallpaper that my grandma had in her kitchen. Ü

If You’re Feeling Blue

This was an artist trading card that I made some time ago.  I used watercolors to create the rainbow background.  When it was thoroughly dry I covered it with O’So Sticky Tape than placed the sentiment layer on the card.  Lastly it was dipped into clear micro beads to make the rainbow shine.

BlueSuzanneGlazoer I really like this card except for the smudges from the edge of the stamp.  I was so blinded by the pretty colors I didn’t even see it before now.  :)

Happy Everything

I love this stamp for several reasons.  1.  It fits for just about any occasion  2. It’s fun and 3. Every time I use it I think of my sweet friend Debbie W. because she is the one who gave it to me.  :)

HappyEverything I created these quick artist trading cards using scraps of paper left from another design (my atc leftovers box of bits is getting crazy full!)

I put a strip of O’So Sticky Tape across the paper and put ribbon that was slightly smaller on top of it.  Then I added micro beads to the edges for a fun textury border and finished it off with a premade cupcake sticker from Jolees.

My original idea was to use the Jolees for inspiration and make my own.  Maybe I will.  Someday.  :)

Have Some Tea

I love this darling play on words used by PWA designer Julie Imsland.

TeajulieImslandJulie accented the bottom edge of her card using a clear drying glue and a mixture of “tea colored” micro beads

I was inspired by Julie’s card to brew a cup of tea.  Autumn has definitely arrived in the Snoqualmie Valley!  Brrrr.

Paperback O’So Sticky Tape It’s Now Or Never

oso paperback sticky tape sheetWe are still trying to pull together enough pre-orders to bring in the O'So Sticky Paperback tape sheets!

Paperback tape sheets are wonderful for die cutting sticky shapes you'd never want to cut by hand.

O’So Paperback is the exact same tape as our regular sheets and Mega Rolls but it has a white paper liner on both sides which makes cutting with scissors easier and digital die cutting possible.  Hand punches also work but expect it to get gummy and have some Goo Gone nearby.  Thumb lever punches seem to work the best for me.

Between my Vagabond, Cricut and O’So Sticky Paperback Tape sheets I can get myself into some really amazing artwork that otherwise would never happen! Ü  But alas, even my own personal stash is nearly depleted.

If you've been wishing we would bring it back, now is your chance to help make that happen!  Place your preorder on our website here:
http://www.pennywisearts.com/adhesives.php

Currently we have a handful of the Mega Rolls in stock - you might want to grab one while you are there!

Suzanne

Birds Of A Feather

I’ve been so busy with classes and kits that I've neglected the blog for far too long!  Here’s a sweet shaker atc made by PWA designer Julie Imsland.

BirdsJulieImsland

Julie used one of our Super Simple Shaker Card templates to create the box that “caged” the micro beads.  :)

Altered Cigar Mail Box Kit

Creative Classes In Paper   Presented by Suzanne Glazier of Pennywise Arts

clip_image002

When this altered cigar box arrived in my mail it took my breath away!  PWA designer, Dee Moran’s attention to the details made me want to keep looking and looking to make sure I didn’t miss a thing!  My next instinct was to make one!  mail box top

And since I think you’ll want to make one too, Dee has given me permission to offer this in a workshop with the possibility of also offering  kits by mail.  Please let me know if this interests you!

I’ve been able to track down almost all of the components that Dee used with some substitutions that work just as well as the original.  Graphic 45 has discontinued the papers that Dee used so the boxes we make in class will be slightly different than the example but not enough to change the overall look and feel of the box.

This is some of the substitute paper we will be using in class:

peninhand “Pen In Hand” (shown above) was also discontinued but I was able to get my hands on enough sheets for 20 students.  The variety of vintage  ink bottles and pen nibs keep with the “mail” theme very nicely, don’t you think?

Here is one side view of Dee’s Box:

mail box side

Inside the lid Dee put corkboard and decorated push pins (not shown).  The box has separate sections for hand stamped note paper, a matching pen, a Post It note pad with an elegant coordinating cover, a pocket for postage stamps, another pocket for labels and some very fun clips! mail box inside

mailbox clips The average paper crafter will have no problem putting this project together in a day.  Workshop would probably run about six hours with a BYOB (bring your own bag) lunch break.

This time of year I look at everything with the eye of “does this project have gift potential?” An altered cigar box made into a sweet box for mail supplies is a resounding, “YES”!

Paper Roses Galore!

Presented by Suzanne Glazier of Pennywise Arts

clip_image002

I hope you’re not tired of seeing my paper roses yet!  I don’t think it’s possible to ever tire of making them!  Yesterdays photo didn’t show the individual packages very well, so I retook the pictures.  :)

This rose/bow is huge!  It’s about 10” across.

IMG_2130

It’s super easy to add any blend of micro beads to the edges for more interest and texture (if that’s even possible!)

IMG_2118

I had so much fun matching my roses up with hand made papers from my stash and coordinating it all together with my favorite ribbons from May Arts.

IMG_2120  IMG_2133 This is my favorite one so far:

IMG_2114  Now to get busy on my shaker card samples for classes on the 23rd!  (There will be kits for sale online too, in case you live too far away to come shake it up with us). Ü
