When Not Much Stamping Is Getting Done

So when not much stamping is getting done, and not much of anything else is getting done either… it’s probably due to this fun doodle art form that is popping up in so many of the art/stamp/craft magazines!  This particular style is called Zentangle and I learned how to do it in a class.

I’m really liking the art journals that I’ve seen in magazines that utilize this fun zen-doodle-thing.  One lady even did her furniture!

Why the coffee cup?  Well, I am glad you asked!  I was in a local coffee shop the other day and saw that they had a shelf where they were collecting doodled on cups and it inspired me to save mine and see what I could do with it.  I am going to take it back to them next time I go in!

Hugs!  Suzanne

  1. I just cannot get the hang of zentangles. Many people take to it instantly. I wonder why?

Your coffee cup is masterful. And gorgeous! If the coffee house does not want it, you could do another giveaway...hee, hee!

  2. I can't draw, can't even do a decent doodle--that's why I have to stamp!

Your coffee cup is just awesome--I am just blown away--haven't seen this before--guess I need to look at some different mags the next time I make it to Barnes and Noble--which is over 2 hours away. Darlene

  4. This is fabulous!

It doesn't look like something you just learned about... It certainly rivals the pieces I saw recently in a magazine article.

This needs it's own little niche with a gallery light to show it off at the coffee shop.

  6. You’d be surprised how EASY it is to do actually….. this particular technique (or take on an OLD art form) is from a company called Zentangle www.zentangle.com they break it all down step by step in their kits as well as add more via their newsletter every month. This cup used every tangle I learned in the kit. Next time I’m going to try some of the more advanced ones!

Here is an artist blog who does new and exciting things all the time with Zentangle. She had an article in the November issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors: http://beezinthebelfry.blogspot.com/2008/12/and-were-off-no-wait.html

  8. This cup is fabulous, Suzanne! How do you work on a rounded surface, though? That boggles my mind.

  10. I am another Suzanne who loves doing zentangles! Your cup is fabulous! I carry a small moleskine journal in my purse where I do zentangles whenever I have a spare moment waiting. Keep on "tangling"! Suzanne (not of the original post!)

  13. Zentangling is a great way to relax. Your cup is great...You've showed me that we can zentangle on just about anything. I've only done it on paper while sitting before the TV to keep my husband company. I posted a few on my blog back in November 2009.
