Pennywise Arts Classes in Lacey, WA

I’m so excited to announce my new class line up at Art ‘N Soul!

On Sunday, September 9th I have:

Flower Frenzy    12-2pm

There is nothing imitation about these paper roses!  Incredibly durable and easy to make, it’s a given that students will be addicted to this inexpensive technique in a blink of an eye. Using a wide variety of inks we will explore learning several different techniques for dyeing the paper. This will be followed up with stamping ideas for turning these colorful blooms into gift bows or even greeting cards! (Stores will receive these samples in advance to help sell the class.)  Students can expect to take home at least 5 completed flowers with supplies to make several more at home.

Bottle Cap Pendants   3-5pm

Using supplies from Pennywise Arts and Bottlecap, Inc. we will complete 5 pendants of different design.  Students will have a wide selection of images:  nature, fantasy, vintage and playful.   Class kit includes ball chain and beautiful clear lid gift boxes for all 5 pendants.  These would be lovely to have on hand for last minute gifts!  

 

On Sunday, September 23rd I’ll be doing two different shaker card classes!

Shakers Round One is from 12-2pm and for sure you will get to make the “Rainman” shaker card there! 

A Second Dose of Shakers  is from 3-5pm.  More class samples coming soon!

Each class will have a variety of shaker card shapes, sizes, techniques and designs!

Steampunking

Last week I had a Steampunk play date with my friend Michelle McCarthy.  We are both novices to creating with the theme and wanted to try our hands at it.  Michelle was far more productive than I was.  When she asked me if this was “steampunk enough” I told her to add clocks and gears because that makes everything steampunk, right?  So she did!  A fun mix of micro beads accents the watch face and gear collage below.

Lilah’s 3rd Birthday

My little friend Lilah just turned 3 years old.  She’s an artist, like me and I wanted to make her a card that would really wow her! 

I started with a piece of cupcake shaped chipboard found in a dollar bin at Michael’s a year or three ago.

I painted it with white acrylic paint and while it was drying I prepared the elements.  The flowers are white paper roses about the size of a quarter that I spritzed with dye ink.  (I didn’t worry about getting total coverage because I liked how having some white spots on the petals gave the flowers more depth.)  These were glued onto the cupcake for frosting.

The cherry on top is a clear flat sided marble.  I just dripped drops of Cardinal Red Ancient Page ink over it until it was covered.  Being alcohol based it dried in no time and I love the rich color. 

I cut the number 3 from both paper and O’So Sticky Tape with my Cricut.  The micro beads are a mixture of fuchsia and rose opaque.

The cupcake paper is made from a piece of striped scrapbook paper.  I stamped Happy Birthday with a Kaleidacolor Spectrum ink pad and put the paper through a crimper.  Crimping paper will cause it to shrink, so it’s important to crimp first and cut to size after.

Lilah’s sweet little face lit up when I gave her the card so I think she liked it!

Vintage Fat Book - Karen Slusher

Karen Slusher’s vintage page was created to be a label of her very own brew of hard cider. 

Her maiden name is Crane and she writes on the back of her page that this was her “Vintage Year”.

Her page has been aged and antiqued and has copper crackle ink and embossed accents.  With micro beads, of course!

And that’s the last of our Vintage Fat Book pages!  I’m always so honored to swap art with the ladies of the Pennywise Arts Yahoo Group – they are a fun and talented bunch!

Vintage Fat Book – Sally Luna

Sally Luna used a vintage car, clothes and architecture for her “Fine As Vintage…” fat book page design.

Sally stamped two of each of her images with Stampin' UP! Going Grey ink and colored them with chalks.  (Did you know that the ink takes on the color of the chalk you use to color?) 

One of each image was cut out and layered up on foam tape and a micro bead waist band added to the woman’s dress.

Sally had a unique request that her page be “last” in the book.  That was so she could add the black ribbon tie and special monogrammed charms for each participant.  She used SU! new alphabet die cut to make the initials, cutting them from paper that had O’So Sticky Tape placed onto it.

Such a lovely finishing touch!

Vintage Fat Book – Kathy Fabre

Kathi Fabre’s page says, “Je adore la vin”.  And I adore her page!

The hand painted hair features, stickles eccents and the three dimensional grapes are really fun!    Up close you can see that they must have sparkling wine because of the “bubbly” microbeadness.  (wink)
